Application- Red Lip Liner
When using a red lip liner, you must use a lot more care and be precise when applying due to it being a stronger colour. Stronger colour;s stain the skin more than a neutral colour would. The steps for applying a red lip liner are very similar to applying a nude liner, except for some changes at the end. When choosing the shade of lip liner to suit the client’s preference, ask the client what colour lip they would like.
Apply a dab of highlighter to the cupids bow area of the lip (Refer to the lip anatomy) with a flat brush.
In the hand that you are not using the lip liner, take a tissue or cotton pad and place it on the client’s chin for balance and steadiness while you draw on the lip.
Beginning with the cupid’s bow (Refer to lip anatomy); gently draw in each line as a V-shape.
Draw a line down each side of the lip with light strokes to the corner of the lips. Repeat on the other side of the lip.
Continue drawing the lip lines onto the bottom area of the lip either side, meeting in the middle.
When satisfied with both the shape of the top and bottom lines, draw over them again to darken the line.
Tilt the pencil to the side and shade onto the whole lip as this will act as the base of the lipstick colour.
Red lipsticks stain easily. Handle very carefully.
Once the lip liner has been applied, this will act as the stencil for the lipstick to stay inside of. Never go outside of the lip liner lines, as the liner prevents the lipsticks from bleeding.
Using a spatula, gently scrape off the first layer of lipstick. This will ensure that the lipstick is clean and ready for the client. Always use this method to prevent cross infection.
Using either a disposable brush or lip brush, wipe over the lipstick to pick up enough product to apply onto the lip area.
Beginning in the middle of either the top or bottom lip, generously apply the lipstick in stroking movements all over the lip, staying within the lip line. Ensure that the lips are totally covered.
Ask the client to press their lips together
If you would like to be precise, use a small flat or angled brush with concealer on and draw around the outside of the lips. This will give the lips a more defined appearance.
Blend the concealer out into the skin
Using your ring finger, smudge highlighter onto the centre of the top and bottom lips. Apply more onto the bottom lip to give the appearance of fuller, juicier lips.
Ask the client to press their lips together and finish by applying more lipstick as necessary.
