There are lots of different types of hair and the type of shampoo and/or conditioner you buy should depend on what type of hair you have. Choosing the right one for the hair is important. If the wrong choice is made the hair could be difficult to style afterwards.
Below are some different types of hair:
Coarse, curly hair – is almost always dry, because oils found in the scalp don’t travel as easily down the hair shaft as they do with straight hair. You need a shampoo that softens hair while minimizing frizz. Creamy, moisturising shampoos work best for this kind of hair.
Fine, oily or limp hair – is more prone to looking oily and can get this way after only one day. Go for clear shampoos and stay away from creamy ones. It is best to use a gentle shampoo that can be used for daily or frequent washing. Also, you can use a dry shampoo or talcum powder between washings. Not only will the powder soak up oils, but it adds body as well.
Coloured or chemically-treated hair – if overly processed, your hair can suffer from oily roots but dry shafts and ends. You should aim to strengthen weak areas in the hair shaft that naturally comes from colouring, straightening, relaxing or perming hair. Look for protein-based shampoos with ingredients such as wheat and soy extracts or silk amino acids
Dry, damaged hair – can get tangle and knotty easily. Avoid clear shampoos and use the creamy ones. These will smooth, de-tangle and diffuse frizz.
