Application- Ombre dark lip
Application of a dark lip liner is mostly the same steps to follow as when applying a red lipstick
When using a dark lip liner, you must be a lot more careful and precise when applying, due to it being a stronger colour. Stronger colours stain the skin more than a neutral colour would. When choosing the shade of lip liner to suit the client’s preference, ask the client what colour lip they would like.
Always match the lip liner colour to the lipstick.
Ask the client if they would like their lips to appear fuller or stay the same as their true size. If the client wants a fuller appearance, apply the liner just outside of the lip line. If the client wants a more natural look, apply only on the lip line.
In the hand that you are not using the lip liner, take a tissue and place it on the client’s chin for balance and steadiness while you draw on the lip.
Beginning with the cupid’s bow (Refer to lip anatomy), gently draw in each line as a V-shape.
Draw a line down each side of the lip with light strokes to the corner of the lips.
Next, begin in the centre of the bottom lip and draw the line with a light stroke.
When satisfied with both the shape of the top and bottom lines, draw over them again to darken the lines over and over.
Tilt the pencil to the side and shade onto the lip around the outside edges, leaving the middle of the lips bare. You want to create a faded look, so the outsides need to be very deep in colour and fade into none.
Once the lip liner is applied, this will be the stencil you will use to add the lipstick. Never apply outside of these lines as the liner prevents the lipstick from bleeding.
Application - Dark Lip Liner Ombre
Using a spatula, gently scrape off the first layer of lipstick. This will ensure that the lipstick is clean and ready for the client. Always use this method to prevent cross infection.
Using your lip brush, wipe over the chosen colour of lipstick. Add as much lipstick as necessary to the brush for application.
Generously apply the lipstick in stroking movements. Ensure the lips are covered at the outside edges and do not apply beyond the lip line. Leave the inner areas of the lips bare.
You will be creating a faded look, so apply lipstick to the outer edges until they are deep in colour and fading into the natural lip colour.
Next, take a creamy lipstick or gloss in pink shades and apply to the middle of the lip that has no colour. Press the lips together to blend.
Darken around the outer edge again so that it has the Ombre appearance, going from dark to light. You will be creating a faded look, so apply lipstick to the outside edges until they are deep in colour and fading into the natural lip colour. This is only a preference, but to sharpen and clean up the edges, take a small light skin colour concealer angled brush and apply concealer around the edges of the lips. Draw over the outer lip line stencilling again to darken the line. Buff around the area to blend in the concealer.
