A pedicure massage includes the foot and lower leg.
It helps to moisturise the skin, increase blood circulation, ease discomfort from arthritis or rheumatism and maintain joint mobility. It is also extremely relaxing.
Use the effleurage technique, which is a form of massage involving a very gentle repeated circular stroking movement, made with the palm of the hand.
Move from the foot to the knee on both the back and the front of the leg.
On the top of the foot (also known as the dorsal), use a technique called thumb frictions.
Place your thumbs, one in front of the other, and move backwards and forwards in a gentle sawing action from the toes to the ankle. Slide back down to the toes and repeat
Use the same thumb frictions technique on the sole of the foot ( also known as the plantar aspect) moving from the toes to the heel. Repeat twice.
Next, use a technique called toe circling. Hold the base of the toes with your hand, then with your other hand move each toe, individually, clockwise and then anti-clockwise. Repeat twice on each foot.

Ensure the feet are clean and dry.
Place nail varnish remover onto a cotton pad and wipe over each nail. Repeat again with clean cotton wool. The toenails are now free from grease and debris and are ready for polish.
Separate the toes using disposable toe separators.
